Humans are not being replaced, merely provided a co-pilot
Research by McKinsey & Company suggests that current technologies theoretically could automate activities accounting for about 57% of working hours in the US today.
However, as much as there is concern about mass unemployment sweeping the globe, the study indicates that work in the future will be “a partnership between people, agents, and robots”, all driven by artificial intelligence.
The research suggests human skills will endure, but will be applied differently.
“More than 70% of the skills sought by employers today are used in both automatable and non-automatable work. This overlap means most skills remain relevant, but how and where they are used will evolve,” the report states.
The combination of AI and agile management practices is already emerging as a significant point of overlap and even today is producing excellent real-world results.
AI has been integrated into project management systems at global tech giant IBM, where it is used to identify risks before major issues occur.
An even better-known example has played out at cloud-based communication platform Microsoft Teams. Here, AI is employed to improve communication and project tracking.
What the marriage between AI and agile project management has produced is not a replacement for humans, but a co-pilot that helps people make proactive, data-driven decisions.
